Roads we work most weeks
Tauwhare and Matangi together cover a fair patch of countryside — from the Matangi township east toward the Tauwhare hills. The Monday fortnight runs roughly:
- Matangi Road from the highway out to the school — first half of the morning, mostly hedge runs and section rounds
- Tauwhare Road through to the Tauwhare hall — main lifestyle-block stretch
- Pukemoremore Road and the side roads off — bigger blocks, longer driveways, native-planting projects
- Tamahere fringe (technically not Tauwhare but on the way through) — newer rural-lifestyle subdivisions, often want a fortnightly
- Tauhei Road and the back-block roads — rural-fringe, monthly is more common than fortnightly
What a Tauwhare or Matangi block actually needs
The work mix out here is different from town. Three patterns:
- Bigger section, longer visit. Two to four acres of mowable area, a long hedge run along the road frontage, and a residential garden tighter to the house. Two-hour fortnightly visits are normal, sometimes three. $185–$285 per visit depending on size and what's needed.
- Boundary-stream riparian planting. Most of these blocks have a stream or drain running through. Council subsidies are sometimes available for the planting; we'll help work out which scheme applies. Project sizes typically 100–500 plants over one or two days.
- Macrocarpa shelter-belt maintenance. Old shelter belts need annual side-trimming to stay legal and useful. We do this with a side-arm trimmer on the trailer; older or taller belts that need topping go to Ben Carrington's arborist crew.
Slot availability
- Tauwhare / Matangi Monday fortnight: usually two slots open across the year
- Native-planting projects: book by Easter for a May–August slot
- One-off jobs (hedge run, shelter-belt trim): three-week wait
- Storm cleanup after a named event: same week, blocks with blocked driveways first
What we don't do on a lifestyle block
The line between "garden" and "paddock" matters here:
- Paddock topping, gorse knockdown, weed-spray at scale — needs a GROWSAFE operator, not us
- Stock-fence maintenance — not our trade
- Macrocarpa topping / felling above five metres — Ben Carrington in Te Rapa
- Pump-shed, water-supply, effluent work — not our trade
- Stock-related work, animal handling — not us
