Streets we work most weeks
Hamilton East's housing stock is a mix — interwar bungalows and weatherboards along the river streets, mid-century brick on Hillcrest, and newer infill where the older sections have been subdivided in the last twenty years. The fortnightly rounds cluster around half-a-dozen streets:
- Galloway Street & Peachgrove Road — older bungalows, mature liquidambars, big leaf-drop in May
- Knighton Road over to River Road — riverbank sections, regular riparian work along the back
- Wairere Drive corridor — newer infill, long boundary hedges, lots of buxus
- Hillcrest Road up the hill — sloped sections, the kikuyu pushes hard through summer
- Te Aroha Street & the Claudelands streets — our home patch, two-thirds of the round
- Hayes Paddock area — older brick-and-tile, lots of fruit trees needing the winter prune
What a Hamilton East section actually needs
Three patterns cover about three-quarters of what we do here:
- Fortnightly section round. The interwar sections are smallish (typically 600–800 m²), with established beds and a hedge or two. Standard town-section visit, $85 a fortnight, one and a half hours.
- Winter fruit-tree prune. A lot of the older sections have a feijoa, two or three citrus, and an apple or pear from forty years ago. The winter window (June–August) gets booked solid by late May.
- Riparian planting along the river edge. The streets backing onto the Waikato — River Road, parts of Knighton, the eastern end of Galloway — often want a planted strip along the back boundary. We do this in May / June and follow up through summer.
Slot availability
- Hamilton East Tuesday fortnight: usually one or two slots open across the year
- Hamilton East Thursday fortnight: usually waitlisted, two-to-three-week wait for a new slot
- One-off jobs (hedge clip, winter prune, autumn tidy): two-week wait outside the spring rush
- Storm cleanup after a named event: same week or next morning, priority to existing clients
A note on access
Most Hamilton East sections have driveway access or a wide grass verge we can park the ute and trailer on. We don't need a permit, we don't charge for parking time, and we'll move if the bin truck comes through. For the few inner-east streets where on-street parking is tight (around Galloway / Williams), we'll let you know if we need to arrange a temporary cone the night before.
